Build

Shape the world from the other side of the prompt.

Every zone, system, and help file was made by someone who started as a player. Building is another way to play Luminari.

Ways to build

Builders

Zones, rooms, objects, and quests are authored with in-game building tools. Read the Wiki Builder Manual → for OLC guides and zone creation protocols. Builders apply in-game — ask on the newbie or builder channels.

Developers

The engine is C, open source, and actively developed — 15,589 commits with activity into June 2026 (checked 22 July 2026). Issues and pull requests are open to everyone.

Documenters

Help files, guides, and lore articles keep the world enterable. Documenters contribute directly to the LuminariMUD Starlight Wiki. If you can explain a mechanic clearly, the project needs you.

Start here

  1. Play long enough to know what the world feels like from inside.
  2. Read the repository — the README and docs explain the architecture and contribution flow.
  3. Pick something small: a help file fix, a reported bug, one room that could read better.
