First Steps, Less Fuss

A lantern-bearing guide welcomes a cloaked traveler through a stone city gate at sunset.

Your first adventure should begin with a character you are excited to play. The July 27–September 28 catch-up brings a friendlier entrance to the world, plus better ways to find your feet.

A warmer welcome

July’s browser rollout brought guided account and character screens, including the role-play profile: background, personality, goals, and the little details that make a hero yours. Available choices come from the game itself, including its unlock rules. The familiar terminal remains available throughout.

Make the game comfortable

September added a screen-reader choice during character creation. screenreader on hides automatic ASCII maps and repeated gameplay prompts while keeping room descriptions and normal messages. Turning it off restores your underlying display choices.

Optional sound is a separate setting, off by default. It needs a compatible client and installed sound files; help sound explains the setup. Text still carries the information you need.

Help searches also gained better suggestions for near misses and support for alternate names. New answers cover questions players actually asked, including companions, point-buy, crafting, and feats. Less guessing at the magic keyword; more finding the answer.

Account protection also improved, with stronger password storage and safer account queries. Cross-game chat received fixes for private messages, presence, and repeated sender echoes.

The browser rollout is recorded as live in July. The later accessibility and help changes are implemented, but their live rollout was not independently verified for this catch-up.
