Known by Deed, Bound by Choice

Two wary adventurers exchanging names at a crossroads while crossed banners, a notice board, and a concealed floor trap frame the scene

In most worlds, the interface tells you a stranger’s name before the stranger speaks. LuminariMUD gained the option to make that knowledge part of play.

The configurable introduction system replaces unknown names with short descriptions until one character uses introduce. Introductions save with the character, can be deliberately forgotten, and flow through room views and the who list. On worlds where the rule is enabled, new characters must choose a short description before entering play.

Conflict requires a choice

PvP gained a consistent consent gate. Players and their pets are protected unless both sides have enabled the PvP preference and the campaign allows it. Turning the flag off carries a fifteen-minute cooldown, preventing someone from escaping consequences by toggling protection in the middle of a dispute.

That same consent rule later became a critical requirement for vessel combat, hostile boarding, ship capture, and plunder.

Shared places grow smarter

The board system was rebuilt with database-backed behavior and cleaner routing. Mob groups learned to assist one another. Builders could configure custom creature statistics, while wizard and sorcerer NPCs gained spell slots, buff logic, group and area spells, and better priority for manually assigned magic.

A new trap framework introduced twenty trap families, five severity bands, room and zone generation flags, and the foundations for detection, disarming, saves, area effects, and recovery. Autosearch gave players a practical control for the systems already wired. Some builder and migration work remained in progress, so this was a foundation rather than a claim that every trap path was finished. Later regression work specifically repaired Light Step’s trap checks.

Together these changes made crowded places more believable. Names can be earned, combat can be consensual, notices can persist, creatures can cooperate, and a suspiciously clean flagstone can finally deserve suspicion.
