Speak, Roll, and Emote

Adventurers exchange a sealed message and share a conversation over dice in a lanternlit tavern.

Some of the best moments in Luminari happen between fights: a tense bargain, a whispered warning, a stranger speaking a language you never learned. This retrospective collects role-play tools added between late 2022 and late 2025 that never got an announcement of their own.

Say it in your own tongue

Every character speaks Common. Most races also know a racial language, and your homeland adds a regional one. A high Intelligence and ranks in linguistics unlock more, which you choose in the study menu. Type speak to see what you know and speak elvish to switch. Then rsay talks in character: only listeners who understand the language follow along.

For table talk, osay (or ooc) marks a remark as out of character, so nobody mistakes a rules question for your paladin's opinion.

Homelands now come from Luminari itself: thirteen regions, from Ashenport and Sanctus to Vailand and East and West Ubdina, each with its own regional language and description.

Let the dice decide

skillcheck rolls a skill or ability check purely for role-play. Show the result to one person, to everyone in the room, or only to myself. It changes nothing mechanical. It just settles whether your character noticed the knife.

temote aims an emote at someone. Codes such as #N (your target's name) and #M (their him/her) fill in the grammar, so your glance lands on the right person.

Friends in low places

Characters with the Criminal / Spy background can relay a written message through their contacts to another player who is online and in a city. Prepare a false signature with forgeas first if you like. It rests on a Linguistics check, so a sharp-eyed reader may still doubt it.

These commands are part of the game build recorded as running in production in August 2026. In game, help languages, help skillcheck, and help emotes have the details.
