The Vault of Ages
A magic sword is powerful. An artifact is remembered.
The new artifact system gives eleven unique items a persistent life beyond an ordinary object prototype. Each artifact is registered once, tracked across the world, and protected against duplicate loading whether it rests in a room, a container, a house, a player save, or another nested location.
Ownership that survives the world
Four binding modes cover unbound, pickup, equip, and account-bound items. Ownership, account identity, level, experience, bind time, and durable location state persist through an atomic writer with compatibility for earlier Realms of Luminari records. Bound artifacts keep their owner when dropped; unbound ones return to circulation.
Single-instance checks reach all four object-loading zone commands. Staff can inspect live and durable locations, find duplicates, spawn test copies, verify the registry, save or reload state, and reset ownership through testartifact.
Power that grows with use
Artifacts advance through five levels at cumulative experience thresholds. First equip, combat, critical hits, boss-tier enemies, signature abilities, procs, and called effects can feed progression. Generic combat awards one random equipped artifact rather than multiplying experience across every item worn.
Level-scaled bonuses cover abilities, attacks, defense, health, PSP, and movement. Physical, magical, and elemental resistance uses the highest applicable artifact value. Three active powers—Soulstrike, Divine Ward, and Doom Blast—carry PSP costs and cooldowns. Weapon procs add soul damage, healing, fear, doom, and a level-five execute, while five signature weapons retain their own dramatic procedures.
Words, oaths, and consequences
Eighteen spoken invocations answer normalized phrases with effects ranging from summoning and travel to resurrection, pacification, black lightning, and rage. Independent recharge stamps prevent one phrase from consuming another’s recovery. Five artifacts enforce Druid, Cleric, Rogue, or Warrior oaths; the wrong bearer is burned and cannot call or identify the hidden power.
The content port and source-side implementation are complete, with 133 production-linked tests passing and all eleven prototypes verified at boot. Deployment, world placement, live integration, balance, cooldown-persistence review, and runtime hardening remain explicit follow-up gates. The Vault exists. Opening it to the campaign will happen carefully.
