Wings of the Dragon Rider

Not every hero wants to slay the dragon. Some would rather ride one. The Dragon Rider entered the code in May 2024 without an announcement, so consider this its overdue introduction.

Dragon Rider is a ten-level prestige class for experienced mounted fighters. It requires a base attack bonus of +8, 10 ranks in Ride, and the Mounted Combat feat, and it costs 5,000 account experience to unlock.

Choose your dragon

At first level you gain Dragon Bond. Pick black, blue, green, red, white, brass, bronze, copper, silver, or gold with study, then call dragon and mount up. The dragon arrives at your overall level, up to 25. The class's riding bonuses apply only while you are riding your own bonded dragon.

Three ways to share the sky

At class level 3 you choose a bond:

• Dragon Champion fights hardest from the saddle: better accuracy and damage, physical resistance, and eventually doubled weapon dice.
• Dragon Kin protects the flight: better armor, a Dragoon-point rally that bolsters allies, and charges that can knock enemies prone.
• Dragon Scion adds your dragon's element to your melee attacks, doubles your Dragoon points, and can trade hit points to restore a prepared spell with deadlypower.

Rider feats such as Rider's Bond and Adept, Skilled, and Master Rider arrive as you advance. At level 10, United We Stand grants its bonuses to rider and dragon alike.

You may meet the class from the other side, too. Since August 2025, NPC dragon riders can call their own dragons and climb aboard mid-fight.

The class has been in the game code since 2024, including the build recorded as running in production in August 2026.
